Today night was tough. Got a thunderstorm with so much lightning that it seemed sometimes as a late 90's rave party. Rain was literally a wall of water.
20 minutes ago I've been scooping the water out of the dinghy and it took about sixty 2l scoops and 5 minutes of work with the hand-pump to get rid of the water from "Lil A'Tuin". So I assume it was about 70-90 liters of rainwater in the dinghy.

Now the second serie is coming and by the forecast it's three times bigger than the night one.

Three videos on this post are in Russian, sorry. I'm telling there that the neighbor was dragged over 150 meters by the wind and they got stuck in fencing buoys. Another video showing amount of water after the rain

Looking at some prices makes me really sad. And this is price at SVB. In Montenegro it's ~x2.

So I went to the hardware store, found there barn hinges, and drew some holes for the M8 bolts.

The last photo is the standard for choosing the conductor size for a certain load.

Even divided by 2 I have a plenty of free current left.

Btw, the total price for a "customised version" is €16, plus 2 hours of time.

Surviving summer on the boat. :)

Tbh, even two blowers aren't enough. It's about 37° in the boat and about 70-80% humidity. Making myself wet helps a little for 10 minutes.
The brain is throttled to 25% during the day and by the sunset I'm so exhausted by the heat that I have no other desires except having a beer and just breath out.

So, AC-DC shore power charger is gotta be replaced.
Voltage regulator for the alternator — too. Or change the alternator to the proper one for the lifepo batteries type.

So far I disconnected the alternator from the service batteries. Hoping I'll have enough sun while gathering money for all these replacements.

Life with 400Ah battery bank on this boat is great. I'll have to extend it later, when I change the inverter and switch cooking from propane to induction, but for now it's at least twice as much as I need for two days.

Solar panel charge batteries back to full even before 10 am and then just keeps them topped.

Moved to a less crowded location with a better view to Ursa's paws. :)

What is bad luck and how to deal with it.

29 May 2024

12:37 https://y-b.one/boat-life/390/

My marine AGM batteries are dead — just the anchor light drains them out completely in less than 6 hours.

There is a huge sale on Renogy products and I’m going to buy some new batteries there.

Tested out the full electricity consumption of the boat — powered up everything including bilge pump and water pressure pump — 390 Watts.

Normal human being requires about 40KW/month for almost everything.

If I’ll make galley electric this value may double, but it’s not the short-term plan.

Therefore, having over 1KW in solar panels would be required only when the washing machine will be installed to the boat along with the electric galley.

But, there’s another thing to consider — watermaker.
I couldn’t afford a new one and on the aftermarket time to time seen only the old less efficient models which require about 800W of power to operate. So, most probably, I’ll install as much panels as will fit the space and only after will deal with the consumption.
That will save my batteries life a lot.

A little bit of luck and precise timing to make the best "MiR" boat photo for the friend.

Three-masted vessel — Montenegro navy's flagship "Jadran". Built 1931, started service 1933. Now serves mostly as a floating museum moored to the Tivat central pier and partially as a sightseeing recreational yacht.
