Mediterranean 1m waves are extremely dangerous for the small boats because eventually these waves combine erecting up to 3m high very steep one that may roll a little motorboat overkeel even if the boat was pointing its nose to the waves.
Also this case pointing that even being close to shore does not give you any higher chances to survive. Fishermen on such boats almost never go farther than 1 mile offshore. Usually less.
