Sailing things right

Learning simple things the hard way.

When I was fixing the boat at the boat-yard last summer, I've replaced most of the seacocks. And what I didn't do — I didn't paint seacocks inside with antifouling paint.

About a month ago I got my head clogged and since then I was forced using the second one while I was trying to fix the issue. I've tried a lot of different approaches from inside. Pressure, water, cleaning solutions, steel wires and half of these attempts were literally shoulder-deep in shit.

Yesterday I've ran out of other options but to launch a dinghy and try doing it from the outside trying to reach the hole from underneath. And you know what — the hole got clogged just with barnacles. They grew so much that ever liquids couldn't pass.

So, lesson learned. Paint holes inside as deep as possible with at least three coats of antifouling.

Now I have my own true shit-story to share with others while having a sundowner.

The pic is just a random boat at the yard I'm spending winter at which name I always read as "Diarrhea" at first. Poor boat, I'm sorry.
